Tony Carey - Sweden tour in April 2004
This really was a "dream come true" for me! And it all started with a small note from me in a guestbook, where I asked if there was any interest in getting Tony here to Sweden and Västerås? The one who immediately answered my question was Björn... about seven months later my long time dream would come true - Great thanks to my dear friend Björn!
April the 8th would become a milestone for the Scandinavian TC fans, as we where about to witness a "magical evening". Fans had travelled from all over Sweden, Norway and even Germany to see Tony perform live for the very first time here in Sweden. There where about 250 people in the "200 tickets club", Village is just the right kind of club for this evening... when Tony entered the stage it almost got kind of chaotic as fans gathered as close to Tony as possible, but soon they seated themselves at the floor in front of the stage - like one big family! Tony started the concert with a groovy version of "only the young"; this alternative version brings the very best out of this great song! That's the way it is when Tony perform live, every song get new life, you can't expect what influences he will bring in to a song or in what direction he will take it?... Tony AND his friends at stage has such a great timing and feeling insight and you could tell that they had a lot of fun! For these concerts there was a bass player (Winnie Buchner) in the band, Winnie brought a new dimension and width to the music (comparing to the ones I saw last year) and Martin Hämmerle's great and sensitive work behind the drums is just perfect! Add to this; Tony's strong and characteristic voice that he uses in a dynamic and expressive way! The last night was really intimate and special in another way than the first night. Before the concert started Tony immediately asked for the spotlight to be turned off, and soon there was candles burning at stage instead. The audience was very close to Tony and the band. You got the feeling like you where in Tony's living room listening to songs played especially for his friends! The audience was very hard-listening-enthusiastic and we couldn't get enough of that great TC music this evening. So once again Tony and his friends gave a long concert, I think they played 23 songs... and I would have loved to hear 23 more... :-) For the very first time at a live performance, Tony played the awesome and touching song "waiting for the winter" from the brand new "1931" album. Also for the first time ever, he did "Ponchatrain" (by request) at the last concert! This song he told is from the forthcoming acoustic album that he's working on... really great song - I'm looking forward to that album! Thank you Tony Carey, Winnie Buchner and Martin Hämmerle for those wonderful concerts - a lifetime memory! And thanks to Tanja - you do a great job! I would also like to personally thank the following persons for their great support: Patrik W, Ivar J, Tobbe H and Jari K.
