Live performances in April 2003

At the 25th of April 2003 my waiting was over - this would be the day that I should witness a live performance by the artist I've come to love the most! Just four month before I didn't think that this moment actually would happen one day... I'm really happy to say that I was wrong! My fiancée Johanna and I had booked the flight some month ago. The trip was kind of distorting my weekdays, as I really don't like to fly. This was actually one of the reasons that I "didn't catch" the performances in February (I hope you forgive me Ole ;)).

Mark & Simone Anyway the flight wasn't that bad - and safe in Munich we got picked up by the incredibly friendly couple Markus and Simone (Mark who I only knew by email before). -Great thanks for the kindness to guide us around Bavaria - we hope to meet you soon again (maybe in July here in Sweden! ;)).

After a well-needed dinner it was actually time to enter the club (Q-Bar). This was a really tiny club not the one you would expect to find a world class act in... well I knew I was wrong though! ;) With the lighting mostly provided by candles and a very small stage the atmosphere was really intimate and familiar - and there I was, sitting just a few meters from Tony - it felt so unreal.

The second night (the 26th) was in the club "Kultur im Hinterhalt", this one was designed for those kinds of concerts, there were lights a stage and good sound quality. I really needed this second night because I could hardly absorb all the impressions from the first night. :)

Ok, so what was it like then?... These three musicians Tony, Pascal and Martin are so extremely talented - hearing them play together gave me goose bumps all over my back. There's a lot of entertaining improvising - this is what live music should be like - you really can't figure out what to expect next! Tony's strong voice carries the calm ballads with such an impressive feeling, and then when he sings some up-tempo blues material he truly proves his power and his voice fits just as good in these kinds of songs too - such a great width and feeling insight!

After listening to all of the albums over the years (since 1987) I thought that I "knew" Tony... well I was wrong - hearing him like this gave a whole new dimension to the songs! Please Tony make an acoustic album or maybe a recording from one of those gigs! ;)

Before and after the gigs Tony mingled around with the fans and I had the opportunity to have a small talk to him both evenings - such a great man, down to earth and open hearted - magic moment! :)

It was also so nice to meet all you friends I only knew by email before - a moment to remember!

I know that Tony earlier said something like: "this is a chance for me to have some fun". There's no doubt about it - it sure was a LOT of fun! - Thank you Tony Carey, Pascal Kravetz and Martin Haemmerle! - I hope to see you all again soon!
